Glossary

Definitions of every term used across the GTRV docs — agriculture, drones, and platform.

Pilot
Agronomist
Farmer

Terms used across these docs, defined once. If a term is missing, open a ticket and we'll add it.

A

Account — A legal entity (farm, service provider, dealer) registered in GTRV. Users are members of one or more accounts; drones, fields, and prescriptions live inside an account.

Acres (ac) — US unit of area. 1 acre = 0.404686 hectares ≈ 43,560 ft².

Administrator — Account-level role with full operational access (everything except editing the account record or assigning Owner role).

Agronomist — Crop science specialist. In GTRV, an agronomist typically designs prescription maps and configures VRA strategies.

Application Rate — How much product to apply per unit area. Expressed in gal/ac, L/ha, lb/ac, or kg/ha depending on mission type and unit setting.

B

Block — A grid cell of the prescription. Block size is configurable from 3 to 50 m. Each block is assigned to a zone.

Block size — The grid-cell edge length used to discretize the plot for zone assignment. Smaller block = finer detail.

C

Controller — The handheld / tablet device the pilot uses to plan and fly missions. The bridge between the drone and the GTRV portal for telemetry upload.

Crop type — The plant species growing in a plot. Soybean, Corn, Wheat, Cotton, Sugar cane, Coffee, Rice, Beans, or Other.

CSAT — Customer Satisfaction. The 1–5 star rating prompt shown after a support ticket is resolved.

CustAuth (Customer Authorization) — The signed approval a customer gives before a billable service order proceeds. States: PENDING, SIGNED.

D

Dealer — A GTEEX-authorized reseller and service provider. Tickets and service orders route to your dealer first; the OEM is escalated to only when needed.

Do not Fly — Red readiness state. Critical fault or overdue maintenance. The drone refuses to arm.

Drone — The unmanned aerial system. Used interchangeably with aircraft and airframe.

E

ERP — Enterprise Resource Planning. The dealer's back-office system that stores quotes and sales orders. The Service Order page shows ERP Quote ID and ERP Sales Order ID for cross-reference.

Exclusion zone — A polygon drawn on the prescription map where the controller applies zero product.

F

Farm — Top-level grouping in the operational hierarchy. Contains fields.

Field — A contiguous parcel of land within a farm.

Firmware — The software running on the drone itself. Updates are pushed by the OEM and applied via the controller.

Flight authority — The per-drone permission a pilot needs to arm a specific aircraft. Granted on the drone detail page's Settings tab. Separate from the Pilot role.

Flight Log — The per-drone record of every flight. Source of the flight report PDF.

Fly with Caution — Amber readiness state. Non-critical alert active; pilot decides whether to fly.

G

GeoJSON — Open format for geographic data. Used in the Map Management import flow.

H

Headland — The strip of field where the sprayer / drone turns. Often excluded from prescriptions.

Hectare (ha) — Metric unit of area. 1 hectare = 2.471054 acres = 10,000 m².

I

Imperial units — Acres, gallons, feet, pounds. The US default.

J

Jenks Natural Breaks — Clustering method that minimizes variance within classes while maximizing variance between classes. Best for bimodal NDVI distributions.

K

K-Means — Clustering method that iteratively assigns points to the nearest cluster center. Default and most-used method in the Zone Editor.

Keycloak — The open-source identity provider GTRV uses for authentication.

M

Maintenance Due Soon — Warning condition. The drone enters this state ahead of the actual overdue threshold.

Maintenance Overdue — Critical condition. Flight hours or calendar days since last service exceeded the configured threshold. Forces Do not Fly.

Member — Base operational role. Can use the portal day-to-day but can't manage other users or edit Settings.

Metric units — Hectares, liters, meters, kilograms.

N

NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) — Vegetation index computed from red and near-infrared light. Values 0–1 (in practice). Higher = healthier / denser canopy. See NDVI concept.

NDRE — Normalized Difference Red Edge. A vegetation index that doesn't saturate as quickly as NDVI at high vigor. Not currently computed in the portal.

O

OEM — Original Equipment Manufacturer. The drone manufacturer (GTEEX Revolution).

Offline — Readiness state when the portal hasn't received telemetry for over the offline threshold.

Orthomosaic — A geometrically corrected, stitched-together aerial image. Produced by the OTM processing pipeline.

OTM — Orthomosaic / Orthomapping. The drone capture mission type that produces an orthomosaic.

Owner — Top-level role. Can do everything, including edit the account record and assign other Owners.

P

Photogrammetry — The processing pipeline that turns drone images into an orthomosaic. The Photogrammetry tab in Map Prescription tracks these jobs.

Pilot — Role indicating the user is a credentialed drone operator. Doesn't automatically grant flight authority — that's separate.

Plot — The polygon inside a field that a prescription map applies to. Often equal to the field; can be smaller (trials, exclusions).

Prescription — A variable-rate plan: where to apply how much. Exported as a shapefile bundle.

Prescription preset — Recovery / Maintenance / Neutral. Drives how rates are assigned to zones.

Q

Quantile — Clustering method that assigns blocks to zones such that each zone has equal area (pixel count).

R

Ready to Fly — Green readiness state. All clear.

Recovery preset — Apply more product where NDVI is low. The default for first-pass rescue.

RTL — Return to Launch. The drone's automatic return-to-home maneuver, triggered on low battery, lost link, or operator command.

S

Satellite scene — A single image acquired by a satellite over your AOI on a specific date. Sentinel-2 by default.

Sentinel-2 — European Space Agency satellite providing free, ~10 m resolution multispectral imagery with a 3–5 day revisit time.

Service Order (SO) — The dealer-side work order opened to act on a support ticket. States: Open / Diagnosing / Waiting Parts / Awaiting Approval / In Progress / Completed / Cancelled.

Shapefile — ESRI standard format for geographic data. The output of the prescription wizard is a shapefile bundle.

SLA — Service Level Agreement. The promised maximum response time for a ticket of a given priority.

Spreading — Granular product application (seed, prill fertilizer). Units: lb/ac or kg/ha.

Spraying — Liquid product application. Units: gal/ac or L/ha.

Swath — The width of the strip the drone covers in a single pass. Reported as a per-flight statistic in the flight report.

T

Technician — Role for maintenance staff. Read-only on most features; can complete inspection checklists.

Telemetry — Live data streamed from the drone to the controller (and onward to the portal). Includes position, attitude, battery, motor status.

Triage — Initial state of a new ticket. The dealer's first action is to triage and route.

U

Unit (measurement) — Imperial or Metric. Set per-account in System Settings.

V

VRA (Variable Rate Application) — Applying inputs at different rates across a field based on a prescription map.

W

Warranty Batch — A grouping of warranty-claim line items processed together. Linked to a service order.

Z

Zone — A region of a prescription map assigned a single application rate. Output of the clustering step.

Zone Editor — The drawer where you configure zones, set rates per zone, and finalize the VRA prescription before downloading the shapefile.
