Getting Started for Farmers
Set up your farm operation in the portal — invite your team, add your fields, and connect your drones.
This guide is for the owner of an account — typically the farmer or farm manager — running through the portal for the first time. By the end you'll have invited your team, registered at least one farm with its fields, and seen your drone fleet in the dashboard.
Roles you'll work with
The portal recognizes these roles. As an owner you can assign all of them.
| Role | Typical person | What they can do |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | You. Senior farmer / business owner. | Everything. Only an owner can edit the account itself and assign other owners. |
| Administrator | Operations manager. | Full operational access; can manage members and settings but not change ownership. |
| Member | Most staff. | Use the portal day-to-day. Can create farms / fields / plots and access drones they're assigned to. |
| Pilot | Drone operator. | Member-level access plus flight authority. Can be granted authority per drone. |
| Technician | Maintenance staff. | Read access on drones; can comment on tickets; can complete inspection checklists. |
| Sales Representative | Outside sales. | Limited read-only access for territory-level reporting. |
| Dealership Manager | Dealer-side role (assigned to dealer accounts, not yours directly). | See the Dealer portal reference for details. |
You'll mostly work with Owner, Administrator, Member, and Pilot day-to-day.
Step 1 — Verify your account
When you first sign in, the portal lands you on the Onboarding page if your user isn't yet associated with any account, or on the Account Switcher if you have one or more. As the owner you'll see your farm's name in the switcher.
Click your account to enter. The URL updates to /<your-locale>/<your-account-id>/dashboard.
Step 2 — Set your account preferences
Open Settings → System Settings → General:
- Portal Name — what shows in the top-left of every page.
- Upload Logo — optional, 400×400 JPG/PNG.
- Measurement Units — pick Imperial (acres / gal / ft / lb) if your operation is in the US.
Take a minute on Settings → System Settings → Flight Readiness Rules to confirm:
- Battery Thresholds: Min and Max percentage — defaults are conservative.
You can come back later for Telemetry & Monitoring, Notifications, Integrations, Security & Access once you're up and running.
Step 3 — Invite your team
Open Settings → Users & Permissions → Add New User.
For each teammate fill in:
- Full Name
- Email Address — they'll receive an invite here.
- Phone Number (with country code).
- Role — from the list above.
- Assign Drone (optional) — bind this user to a specific drone right away (useful for pilots).
Click Send Invite / Generate Password. The teammate receives an email with a sign-in link and a one-time password.
Step 4 — Register your farms
The first farm gets created from the Map Prescription wizard (counterintuitive, but that's currently the workflow):
- Open Map Prescription → Create New.
- In the wizard, click Add New Farm under the Farm dropdown.
- Name the farm. Click Create.
You can cancel out of the wizard after creating the farm. The farm is now in your account.
Repeat for each farm in your operation.
Step 5 — Draw your fields
For each farm, either:
- Draw on the map — open the prescription wizard, pick the farm, click Draw new field, click around the boundary, name it.
- Pick from satellite — the wizard's satellite background helps you trace boundaries precisely.
Field boundaries are persistent — once drawn, they're available everywhere in the portal.
Step 6 — Confirm your drones
Open My Drones. You should see every drone tied to your account.
If a drone is missing or assigned to the wrong account, contact your dealer. Drone-to-account assignment is done at activation time and changes require the dealer's involvement.
For each drone:
- Open the detail page.
- Verify the Serial Number, Product Number, Model, Firmware Version.
- Open Settings → Flight Authority.
- Add the pilots who should be able to fly this aircraft. (You can also do this in bulk later.)
Step 7 — Open the Dashboard
The Dashboard is the home page. Once you have at least one drone and one field drawn, you'll see:
- Active drones count.
- Total acres under management (if your unit is imperial).
- Recent flights.
- Open tickets count.
The Dashboard is read-only at the moment — it's a snapshot, not an interactive workspace.
Step 8 — Configure notifications
Open Settings → Notifications. Pick which channels you want (Email, In-App, Push to mobile), and which triggers should fire alerts. For most farmers, the must-have triggers are:
- Drone Offline (so you know if a controller drops link).
- Critical Error Alert.
- Maintenance Due Soon and Maintenance Overdue.
- New Support Request Created.
See Settings → Notifications for the full catalog.
